Dear Members and Friends of the KBIA Community,
This summer will mark the 99th year that KBIA has provided recreational and enrichment programs for children at our spectacular waterfront facility. It’s quite an accomplishment and we’re looking forward to celebrating our 100th in 2010.
While the past quarter century of KBIA was marked by stability and status quo, the past several years we have experienced a great deal of transition and growth. This year we’re working on refining our programs and applying the membership feedback we received in the Fall Survey. Specifically we will continue to offer a pre-published schedule with an eye toward improving the curriculum and improving our class change processes for the convenience of our members. We will also continue to evaluate every opportunity to reduce costs and strive to maintain current fee levels without sacrificing the quality of our programs or the care and preservation of our facility, Mother’s Beach and the playground.
We will also be re-looking at the long-term management structure of KBIA. We’re sad to report Kirk Butterfield has decided to move on as Executive Director at KBIA. Kirk undertook his role with great enthusiasm but has determined the time commitments and responsibilities of managing his business (Impakt Sports) and KBIA, is not manageable. We wish Kirk all the best and extend a heartfelt thank you for making Summer 2008 a success. Please look for more information regarding 09 staffing and CIT news on the website and in the Spring Newsletter.
Planning is well underway for the 2009 season and many of our fundraising activities. Enclosed you will find a flyer for the 18th Annual Day at the Beach Road Race. Please show your support by registering early! Dates for other activities can be found on www.kbia.net. Don’t forget to mark your calendar and check the website for updated information. This summer we will also be preparing a long term plan, along with a capital campaign entitled “The Next 100 years” of KBIA. More information will be forthcoming.
As you register for your 2009 KBIA Membership, please consider making a contribution to help us do even more in these challenging economic times. Portions of 2009 contributions will be applied to our scholarship program (for local children who need assistance attending our programs), improvements to the facilities and programming. We’re only able to do these things based on your kindness and generosity.
We look forward to seeing you at the Beach!
Sincerely,
Andrew Harrington
President, KBIA Board of Directors
